Sandton at a glance
Sandton is one of the most opulent suburbs in Johannesburg and South Africa, well-known for being the richest square mile in Africa. The name comes from the combination of two of its suburbs, Sandown and Bryanston.
Saxonwold is a dignified neighbourhood with broad, winding roads lined with large trees. The suburb offers conveniently easy access to the M1 and to Jan Smuts Avenue, one of the major arteries from the city through the northern suburbs. Johannesburg CBD is minutes’ drive from Saxonwold, particularly Braamfontein, which includes the Constitutional Court, the Civic theatre, the famous Mandela Bridge that takes one into Newtown and the Market theatre and Museum Africa. The neighbourhood is also close to the shopping centres of Rosebank, Hyde Park and Killarney, and the trendy villages of Parkhurst, Melville and Greenside.

Elton Hill is a small suburb in Sandton, Johannesburg that is so small, it is often referred to by one of the neighbouring, more prominent suburbs like Melrose Arch or Atholl. The evergreen area is hidden behind Wanderers Golf Course and burrowed between Corlett Drive and South Avenue. Elton Hill is encircled by desirable areas such as Melrose, Rosebank, Hyde Park and Sandton. One of the major reasons for staying in this cosy suburb is its access to Sandton and Rosebank. Tree-lined streets, and older houses dominate in this wealthy suburb.
River Club is a suburb of Johannesburg. It is a residentially zoned area near Sandton. Residents of the area consist mostly of middle and upper-middle class citizens. The area borders the suburbs of Duxberry and Bryanston with the boundaries delineated by East Hertford in the east, Coleraine in the south, the Braamfontein Spruit in the north and William Nicol Drive in the east. River Club also contains one of the most exclusive golf course's in the country, a small community restaurant and an office-zoned development.
Bryanston is an upmarket residential suburb located in Sandton, Johannesburg. Bryanston is separated by Bryanston Drive, running from the borders of Randburg to the beginning of Morningside. The long-established Bryanston Country Club is in the heart of this pristine area. Families with school-aged children constitutes a large part of the community because of the exceptional private school system that is ranked best in Gauteng. Top attractions include, inter alia, Braamfontein Spruit, Bryanston Golf Course, Cumberland Bird Sanctuary, and Lilliesleaf Farm.
Paulshof is a suburb of Johannesburg; known as the "Garden Village of the North" by locals due to its proximity to green spaces such as the Rietfontein Nature Reserve. Places of interest include the Free Me wildlife rehabilitation centre, the German Country Club and the Rivonia Recreation & Sports Club. Paulshof enjoys convenient access to the N1 and N3; Fourways and Sandton are easily reached - in fact, many younger executives and families make Paulshof their base because of this, whilst Midrand is also easy to reach from here.
